This is a good list of software for Linux, but they missed a few outstanding applications. They are:
FreeFileSync — backup/copy utility (GNU OpenSource)
CherryTree — Hierarchical note taking application. (GNU OpenSource)
Jubler — Subtitle editor (cost-free, but I don’t think it’s open source)
Freemind — Mind mapping software (GNU OpenSource)
