Temps – A Smart Beautiful Weather App for GNU/Linux

I’ve written on a couple of weather applications before, including Cumulus and Simple Weather Indicator and today I bring you yet another free and beautiful Linux app with thanks to the open source community. It’s reminiscent of Cumulus weather application and it goes by the name of Temps.

Temps is a beautiful cross-platform weather application that lives in the menu bar of any desktop. Being true to the open source spirit, it uses code from several open source projects like Menubar, OpenWeatherMap, Electron, and Chart.js, to mention a few.

It features a clean User Interface with sans-serif fonts, bold minimalist icons (which were developed by the developer himself), and support for OpenWeatherMap which it uses to fetch weather information.

Temps also has the ability to display the weather for any location in the world along with a 4-day forecast for the same location, and data readings of barometric pressure, wind chill, and humidity.

Another beautiful thing about Temp is its default animations to indicate rain, thunder, and snow conditions.

Features in Temps

  • FOSS: Free to use and download with source code available on GitHub.
  • Colorful and minimalist design.
  • Support for Timezone & Geolocation support.
  • 4 Day weather forecast.
  • Interactive hourly weather graph.
  • Animations for Rain, Thunder, and Snow.

Temps is available for Mac (64-bit) and Windows and Linux (32 and 64-bit) so you can go ahead and grab the installer suitable for your architecture by following the button below.

  1. As an avid XFCE user, I sort of cringe every time I hear about a new weather applet; we have had this for about a decade built-in. And then, you have most people creating these things and requiring an API key to use them. If I’m on a different system, I just use “curl http://wttr.in/location” for weather; use “+” to replace spaces.
